Purpose of role

The overall purpose of the role is to ensure RI meets user needs in order to achieve business objectives. As the UX designer, you contribute to creating and enhancing the user experience of Rl’s +150 websites, ensuring it supports our business objectives and enhances our customers' experience.

You'll be responsible for understanding user needs and creating design interfaces that are intuitive, seamless, and engaging. You will work closely with the Design Lead, Product Managers, Digital Content Managers, CRO specialists, Data Analyst, Digital Marketing Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Testers, and Business stakeholders.

Additionally, you'll contribute to developing and upholding our design system, helping to maintain consistency. Ultimately, your will help enhance the customer experience received by RI’s prospective and existing customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

User Research and Analysis:

● Conduct user research and competitive analysis to deeply understand user needs, behaviours, motivations, pain points, and goals. This includes evaluating how existing designs currently meet, or fail to meet, user needs.

● Map user journeys and user flows to achieve a goal, identify potential friction points, and opportunities for improvement.

● Analyse user feedback and data. Interpret qualitative and quantitative data to inform design choices and identify specific areas of poor performance or user frustration within existing designs.

Design and Prototyping:

● Ideate and develop concepts. Brainstorm and sketch a range of concepts and solutions to user problems.

● Create wireframes, journey maps, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes that map out the layout and functionality of screens or pages, whether for new features or redesigns of existing problematic areas.

● Iterate and test new or existing designs. Conduct and analyse results of user testing, A/B testing, as well as analyse web analytics. Identify, prioritise, and recommend usability and user experience improvements, prioritise, recommend, and iterate designs.

Information Architecture:

● Determine structure and organisation of content and features in a logical and intuitive way, making it easy for users to find what they need quickly.

● Create site maps of the hierarchical structure of a website or application, evaluate the current logic, and identify opportunities for improvement.

System Management:

● Ensure designs are consistent with the RI design system.

● Contribute to the development and maintenance of RI’s design system.

Collaboration and Communication

● Collaborate within a cross-functional team, as well as colleagues within the Digital Product team.

● Work closely with all colleagues to ensure designs are feasible, align with business goals, and meet user needs.

● Understand the objectives and constraints of the project that are working on.

● Write clear specifications and guidelines. Provide detailed documentation for developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.

● Test completed development. Thoroughly review implementation of designs, provide succinct and timely feedback to developers and testers.

● Present design solutions. Clearly communicate designs, research findings, and rationale to stakeholders.

Illustrate Value of Design

● Support Product Managers, Design Leads, and CRO specialists to quantify the problem/opportunity, articulate business cases, define appropriate success metrics, and prioritise.

Requirements:

Key Skills and Competencies

● Deep understanding of UX and UI design principles, practices, and methodologies.

● Proficiency in design tools such as Figma.

● Ability to conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis.

● Good understanding of accessibility standards.

● Strong eye for detail and aesthetics.

● Proficient at creating wireframes, journey maps, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes.

● Excellent problem-solving abilities.

● Strong communication and presentation skills.

● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and iterative environment.

● Ability to complete high-fidelity UI design is highly desirable

Experience & Qualification

Minimum of 2 years of experience in UX design, this is a mid-level role.

The following are highly desirable:

● Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.

● Professional certifications from NNG or Google UX Design Professional

● Experience of website and conversion rate optimisation.

● Experience in a B2C or B2B service industry.
