Construction Lawyer - Rentokil Initial

The salary for this position is based on the candidate's level of experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package, which encompasses a yearly bonus of up to 50% based on company and individual performance, private healthcare and enhanced pension. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Construction Lawyer to join our legal team based from our office in Crawley. This role is a hybrid working role where home working will be expected as well.

This role is a full-time, permanent position with working hours from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

This role will primarily involve handling all legal matters related to the construction contracts for our Property, Specialist Hygiene, and Pest businesses. You will be responsible for ensuring that the necessary legal tasks are completed for contracts that are already in place or currently being negotiated.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking charge of a diverse range of cases
  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting construction (and commercial) terms, contracts and legal agreements for business projects
  • Supporting the business in commercial negotiations with end clients
  • Advise on arising issues, insured risks and legal/commercial queries with guidance from appropriate functions where required
  • Deliver training programmes to the business on legal and contractual risks and issues related to construction terms and contracts
  • Looking at ways to improve ways of working and processes
  • Updating precedents and templates
  • When required, work with the regional general counsel and/ or external counsel on any issues arising

Requirements:

Key Requirements

  • A qualified lawyer in England & Wales, or any relevant jurisdiction with a minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Strong technical knowledge of the legal aspects and commercial dynamics of the construction industry
  • Prior experience working in the private sector is a plus
  • Expertise in industry-standard forms of contract such as NEC, JCT, FIDIC & SBCC
  • Familiarity with concepts related to construction project insurance, collateral warranties, performance bonds, guarantees, and claims management
  • Thorough understanding of general corporate, commercial contracts, and legal principles
  • Effective negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills to handle internal stakeholders and build relationships with clients
  • Strong communication skills both written and spoken, with the ability to effectively persuade and influence others.
  • Strategic and creative thinker with the capability to resolve legal issues
  • Comfortable working with incomplete information and able to suggest courses of action despite uncertainties
  • Capable of working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, as well as independently
  • Able to communicate complex and technical legal concepts to a non-technical audience
